Wharton Microfinance Independent Study Lesson 6A
This lesson discusses how MFIs finance their portfolios — with the two prime instruments being deposits (savings mobilization) and securitization of portfolio cash flows. Oftentimes countries have managed to borrow at relatively low rates from foreign capital markets by securitizing cash flows from less risky debtors. How can this be applied to microfinance and the institutions that practice it?

I just came across this site and I am happy because it addresses many of the issues that I have been reflecting upon.
I am the Executive Director of Community Aciton, a small non-governmental organisation based in Ho, Ghana, West Africa. We have been planning for a while now to start a microfinance operation, and I have done some work in preparation. I find this site and the discussions of immense value.
I also think the Wharton MFI Course is well designed and sure to equip participants with the understanding and skills for microfinance operations.
I’ll take my time to go over the discussions in detail, and post my comments.
